  • The Senior Director, Construction Management will oversee, manage, and coordinate design and construction activities of major Metro capital projects.


    Essential Knowledge and Abilities

    • Theories, principles, and practices of engineering and construction of rail or bus transit facilities
    • Equipment and Construction techniques related to the installation and construction of rail, bus facilities, or other complex engineering facilities
    • Construction of underground rail transit projects
    • Contract and bidding process
    • Plan organize, and direct the total activities of a design and construction department for a large public agency
    • Review and analyze complex construction proposals, evaluate alternatives, make sound recommendations, and evaluate outcome
    • Negotiate contract terms and monitor multiple contracts to ensure compliance with schedule, budget, and specifications
    • Understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, contracts, budgets and labor/management agreements

    • Key Duties and Responsibilities
    • Develops and implements policies and procedures for the planning, organizing, coordinating, and controlling of major construction projects
    • Plans, assigns, monitors, and evaluates work of subordinates
    • Coordinates rail design and construction activities with utilities, public and private organizations, and other individuals
    • Directs staff in the review of contracts and documents
    • Oversees preparation of final design documents, bid forms, pre-bid conferences, and evaluation of received proposals
    • Assists in negotiating with contractors regarding changes to design, construction work scope and schedules
    • Ensures contracted work is on schedule, within budget, and complies with technical and legal requirements
    • Represents Metro before the public and other governmental agencies
    • Negotiates scope of work and associated costs for Design Services (DS) consultants and Construction Management Support Services (CMSS) consultants 
    • Oversees the Design Services consultants and Construction Management Support Services consultants in the execution of DS and CMSS 
    • Communicates and implements safety rules, policies, and procedures in support of the agency’s safety vision and goals; and maintains accountability for the safety performance of all subordinate employees 
    • Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

    Experience and Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or other related field
    • Five (5) years of management-level experience in construction management or engineering
    • Valid California Class C driver license

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Professional certificates/licenses: State of California Professional Engineer or Architecture certificate or Certified Construction Manager
