  • POSITION DESCRIPTION

    POSITION SUMMARY

    An Electrical Inspector will be responsible for providing direct oversight of construction activities by contractors at GA. The Associates in this position are the liaisons between the contractor and all other workgroups that may be involved in the successful completion of the construction project. Inspectors will be focused on the electrical side of construction projects. Inspectors focus on quality control, quality assurance and foster a safe work environment by exhibiting an absolute commitment to safety for self and others.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Included but not limited to…

    • Inputs data daily regarding electrical installation for each job; tracks time and materials as needed; compiles reports.
    • Inspection of electrical and electronic construction for highway systems, signal and lighting and transportation-related facilities (such as drainage pump plants) and other traffic management facilities-related electrical and electronic systems.
    • Communicates with contractors concerning discrepancies, for clarification and to communicate necessary information.
    • Analyze applicable codes standards and project contract documents and monitors construction activities to ensure compliance. Interface with local building official plan check and inspection representatives. Interface with local electrical utility.
    • Monitor and/or evaluate electrical tests and inspections such as ground fault ground resistance insulation resistance polarity continuity capacity load and other electrical tests as required.
    • Inspect and review electrical installations during and after construction.
    • Able to interpret single-line and/or schematic electrical drawings as well as plans and specifications.
    • Provide field checks installation and location of electrical equipment electrical duct conduit cable panels and other components of the electrical system being installed.
    • Monitors all electrical installations to assure circuitry phasing equipment and grounding adhere to construction documents and National Electric Code requirements.
    • Provide general inspection on all construction and subcontractor work to assure a safe and workmanlike operation.
    • Verify equipment settings alignment and testing and energization requirements.
  • POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

    • Four (4) years demonstrated experience in construction inspection of highways or major public works projects performing the duties described in this contract, with two (2) of these four (4) years inspecting electrical work on highways or major public works projects performing the duties.
    • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university program, highly desired, however; can be substituted for two (2) years of non-electrical work.
    • Strong communication, verbal and written are required.
    • Basic computer skills required. Microsoft Word, Excel
    • Caltrans Experience, highly desired.
    • Knowledge of Caltrans and Local Agency Standard Plans and Specifications and Greenbook.
    • Ability to read and completely understand contract documents is required

    While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit for up to 6 to 8 hours per day while working at a computer, during meeting or while driving. Walking up to 2 hours per day while performing field visits. Ability to see well enough to function in a typical office environment and read standard text on paper and electronic screen of a computer or handheld device. The associate frequently is required to use hands. Repetitive reaching, repetitive hand use. Physical agility to perform tasks requiring a full range of body movements including lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, stretching, twisting, reaching, balancing, squatting, climbing, crawling, kneeling, or assuming crouched positions, repetitive arm, hand, finger, wrist, leg or foot motion. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Frequently use safety equipment such as a hard hat and safety vest; work in areas not well ventilated such as utility vaults; work outdoors or work on uneven ground or floor spaces; work at elevations above ground level and on marine vessels/structures. Must be able to work in all weather conditions and can work any day of the week both night and day. Available for after hour emergency response.
