Build California Launches Enhanced Website & Online Store

SACRAMENTO – Today, Build California announced the launch of its enhanced website, buildcalifornia.com. The website, which launched in September 2019, will now host an educator portal, job portal, and online store to help attract a future pipeline of motivated, skilled workers to California’s construction industry. Build California’s website enhancement is part of its multi-phased implementation strategy.

“Build California’s website enhancement is a significant step forward toward attracting the next generation of construction workers and helping our members meet workforce needs,” said Peter Tateishi, CEO of AGC of California. “With this second launch, the website is now a comprehensive solution to construction industry workforce needs and will help secure the future of California by strengthening the industry that serves as the foundation of our state.”

In this second phase, California teachers and administrators can sign up to receive exclusive access to classroom resources such as PowerPoint® presentations, trade cards, career path handouts, videos, and other bonus materials free of charge. These materials, designed to educate students about the lucrative, diverse, immediate and long-term career opportunities in California’s construction industry, are unique from other workforce development programs because they are inspired by popular, modern lifestyle brands while incorporating industry-proven tools and tactics.

Industry partners can now access a job portal where they can get on the frontline of construction workforce recruitment by promoting their open positions. Job postings are free for members of AGC of California. Non-members can purchase job posting credits from the Build California online store.

Also available on the site is an online store, featuring the Build California branded materials and attire popular at career fairs and industry events. Now, partners, educators, students, parents, and more can support the initiative by purchasing Build California swag direct online. In addition to the swag, Build California’s online store provides access to educational and promotional materials for the classroom or career fair kits. Inventory is refreshed regularly and offers customization options.

“Changing perceptions about the industry and establishing a strong pipeline of motivated, skilled workers requires the support of a critical mass of industry, educators and communities at large and the incorporation of robust, strategic outreach efforts that appeal to young people,” said Erin Volk, Vice President, Workforce & Community Development for AGC of California and Executive Director of the AGC Construction Education Foundation. “The new features of the website allow us to accomplish exactly what we set out to do: activate educators and industry partners across the state to help attract the next generation of construction leaders, as well as offer second-to-none merchandise that complements Build California’s unique, fresh, lifestyle brand.”

Build California was launched in September 2019 by the Associated General Contractors of California and the AGC Construction Education Foundation in response to industry concerns around a sustained pipeline of qualified craft workers. It is a comprehensive workforce development initiative created to inspire, engage, and activate the next generation of California’s construction workforce. Since its launch, Build California been successful in informing and inspiring a new generation of construction professionals using a robust mix of outreach and programmatic efforts to target audiences in ways the industry has never seen. In a few short months, the initiative has seen over 60,000 web page visits, garnered more than 7,000 followers across social media platforms, and reached more than 4.4 million impressions across all digital platforms thanks to the support and engagement of partners and friends.

“We are grateful for the support of our coalition organizations who have helped make Build California possible,” said Tateishi. “Our coalition partners and supporters represent all areas of the industry, including AGC members, public agencies, private owners, associations, unions, apprenticeship programs, and other non-profits focused on and committed to developing the next generation of skilled, effective, and motivated construction workforce.”

Build California thanks our four Founders for spearheading the initiative’s program development, including AGC of California, the AGC Construction Education Foundation, LCPtracker, and Procore, as well as the Build California Coalition:
